The Landscape Architecture of Lawrence Halprin

February 28 - August 26

10AM - 6PM, Level One between Neiman Marcus and Dillard’s

Visit The Landscape Architecture of Lawrence Halprin: The Original Architect of NorthPark Center for a limited time on Level One between Neiman Marcus and Dillard's. This traveling photographic exhibition highlights the life and work of Lawrence Halprin, one of the foremost landscape architects of the twentieth century. His prolific career spanned more than five decades, and the innovative techniques he pioneered changed the profession forever. When NorthPark was built in 1965, Raymond and Patsy Nasher relied on Halprin’s expertise for the benches, tile work, pots, "sliding" planters in Neiman Marcus Court and the fountain in Dillard’s Court. Halprin’s team for the NorthPark project included Richard Vignolo, who became a notable landscape architect in his own right after starting his firm in 1972. The exhibition includes a video interview between Nancy A. Nasher and Vignolo about his contributions to the shopping center. The Landscape Architecture of Lawrence Halprin was created in 2016 during the centennial of Halprin’s birth and features 56 newly commissioned photographs of his works by leading landscape photographers. The subjects range from recently rediscovered residential projects created early in his career to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial in Washington, D.C. and the Stern Grove in San Francisco.
