Earlier this month, NorthPark Center became home to the first Under Armour Brand House in Texas. Designed to make all athletes better, the brand’s innovative products include performance footwear, apparel and equipment. Because of this robust health and fitness community of 165 million members, Under Armour is able to delve into the data and provide a snapshot of the running habits of people across the country. A few key points can be weaned from this information:

Older runners log the longest runs. Runners in the 45- to 54-year-old age group are clocking 22.5% longer runs than 18- to 24-year-olds.
Although 85% of runners said they prefer morning runs, the majority of runs logged on the Under Armour app are at 5PM in the winter and 6PM in the summer.
Higher-mileage runners are 11% more likely to lift weights than lower-mileage runners.



In cities like Austin, which represents the climate most similar to ours here in Dallas, runners are able to beat the heat by going on more morning runs. The peak months for running in Austin are April and September, when the weather is the most agreeable.


The “Run Report” infographic is dotted with helpful tips and insights from Jeff Knight, Under Armour’s Clinical Exercise Physiologist. Injuries are incredibly common among runners – almost 70% had at least one injury or physical complaint in the past year.



Knight offers clear steps you can take to diminish the risk of injury: “Always warm up slowly for 10 minutes before running. Do some dynamic stretching before your runs and some static stretching after your runs. Foam roll tired muscles before and/or after runs. Ice and elevate any potential injury spots as soon as you feel them.”
